Hi! My name is Jay Sanders, and I am a software developer in the St. Louis area. I am a student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science. I have a love for all things programming, and I am always looking to expand my skillset. In my freetime, I enjoy playing the guitar, tinkering on cars, and most importantly socializing with my friends and family. Feel free to reach out to me at any time!
I've been working as a help desk tech for the university for 2 and a half years now, and I have found it to be very enjoyable. I am responsible for answering phones, responding to emails, and troubleshooting any issues a user may have. I have had the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the university's systems, and I am always finding out new things about these internal and external-facing systems.
Starting this fall semester, I have been fortunate enough to be selected to be a teaching assistant for the CS department of my university. I help grade students' work as well as provide supplemental teaching to students to ensure that they understand the material.
I am currently enrolled in an "accelerated" master's program, meaning that I am working on both my undergraduate and graduate degrees this year.
I am in my senior year of my undergraduate degree, and I have learned many great lessons both software-related and not.
I wanted to get familiar with OpenAI's API, so I used Python to create a web scraper that would take in links to news articles from sites like npr, scrape the contents of the article, then feed it to OpenAI's API and have it provide a summary of the article, which I then stored in output text files
View ProjectI am extremely excited to be working on this project for NGRREC, which is a non-profit water conservation organization based out of Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, IL. I am working with a team to develop a website that hosts information for their annual "Water Festival" educational event. We are using ReactJS to develop this site, and hosting it on Firebase.
